Sorry to have been so long in posting but I've been heavily involved in getting my track car prepared and I'm already late this season. Too much work to allow for other pursuits. I have made some progress on the Neptune. Got the fuselage and wings closed up and ready for paint. I hope to begin painting in the not too distant future. It all depends on whether I can get my track car completed. Plus, as my son also races, I've spent time helping him with his car but we finally went to this track this last weekend and, after some teething problems, was able to run well all day on Sunday. Good times!

There is a really good view of the underside of Tanker 16 in the Barry J Smith Fire Bombers in Action book. Your tank fairing matches pretty well but the ends of the fairing in the photo taper more gently, and I suspect the fairing on the aircraft is a bit longer. There is a very prominent curved panel line at the front of the tank that I think you would need to show in 1/72nd. (I don't build those huge models.) If you haven't got the book it's a useful reference and available on A*****. There are some upsetting pics of this airframe being scrapped at media.photobucket.com/user/Wrenchdude/media/N716AU123105.jpg.html?filters[term]=n716au&filters[primary]=images&filters[secondary]=videos&sort=1&o=6(Contains severe airframe violence.) Not directly relevant to your build, but I see the Falcon conversion to the earlier Neptune configuration with the lower canopy is still available - this would make the other configuration of tanker, as used by Evergreen, possible.

Thanks for the references. I've noticed the different hopper configurations but, frankly, I was trying to build one that didn't have such a prominent hopper. Wonder if you've also noticed that the one I'm building does not have the jet pods installed. The Aero Union Neptunes fleet seems to have removed their jet pods where so many other operators continued to use them. And yes, I agree about the curved panel line in front of the tank. After mulling over this, I decided that I could replicate it by taping out the contour and spraying some primer to build of an acceptable thickness. I'm going to try it and see what it looks like.
The next one I build I hope to replicate the first Neptune converted for fire fighting use and employed by the USFS.
After I tried to be so meticulous in attaching the two-piece canopy, taping it in place and leaving it alone for a couple of days, I noticed the top central seam had slipped and one side was lower than the other. I had to use some filler to correct it and consequently ruined the clear canopy so this one will end up with a painted canopy, which is a shame as I had worked on the interior. I really don't have the drive to try and polish out the scratches.
